Wat ga je doen?

Within T-Mobile, we design and build our Mobile and fixed network ourselves. That is an enormous job, to create a network that can compete on a global scale with the best Telco’s. This is done in our Network Department, and within that department there are various teams contributing to make our customers happy with having the best network in The Netherlands.

For our Transport Design Team, we are looking for an enthusiastic Team Lead Transport Design with a background in a large Telco, nationally or internationally.

This job is clearly challenging but at the same time it is technically a fun job of leading a technical team of designers and planners to design the future transport networks for mobile and fixed while phasing out the legacy systems.

As we design and build the access networks ourselves, the ideal candidate has a generic Technical background, in education but also as a Senior Engineer or Senior designer yourself in Transport Networks, optical, IP and/or Microwave.

You will be working with the latest technologies of a top industry operator with a proven record of winning awards. Umlaut, Ookla, Open signal, etc… You’re contributing front-row to creating/maintaining one of the best networks in the world.

You understand you are the inspiring driver on the continue delivery train to optimize our Transport Design. The train never stops, you know when to slow down, and when to accelerate. Together with your team members you strive for success, always with a smile, satisfying our clients and a  happy Business in the end station, and most importantly, happy travelers on your Delivery train, like Engineers, Designers, Planners, Technical Project managers and subcontractors from all corners from company and beyond, all contributing to the best result, the goal to have the best network in the world!

You are strategic by nature, empathic and have a soft spot for human intellect in a setting driven by organizational targets and innovations.

When times are tough, you stand behind your decisions and in front of your team. You always realize, that the factory has to keep operational, whatever happens!

You are the rock to all your team members, you are systematic, with clear people management skills and have excellent time management skills, in other words, you do not crack under pressure and you won’t be distracted by the road you are taking, and leading your production line, so your entire team, forwards to the best result.

Responsibilities & Tasks:

  • Lead a team of experts, passionate to build the best telecom network in the Netherlands.
  • Design authority for the Transport Design domain.
  • HR responsibility, coaching of the team, developing and improving growth in personal and technical skills within your team members.
  • Steering of Transport Network technology evolution & solutions

Engineering and Design:

  • Technology lifecycle management and budget planning of network systems covering fiber-, optical- & microwave transport solutions and associated management.
  • Develop and maintain the roadmap for Transport Design technology, considering the company strategy, technical trends, terminals roadmap, and competition and in consultation with the suppliers.
  • Main representative in the architecture boards.

Budget Management:

  • Executes/monitors progress for departmental year plan.
  • Gives input for Opex & Capex budget.
  • Initiates own projects within year plan, ensures funding, resources.

Project execution:

  • Ensure fixed access project execution according to year plan.
  • Make sure projects are fully set-up for success (mandate, cost, timelines etc.)
  • Actively take corrective actions in project execution.

Continuous improvement:

  • Recommend design/process improvements to increase service quality.
  • Make sure design are supporting customer experience and operational stability ambitions.
  • Work closely with operation department to ensure customer feed-back loop is taken into account in network evolution.

Within our Network Department, our T-Mobile technical teams are composed of highly skilled multinational employees, as well as manage service partners and suppliers, all contributing to the delivery train to get the best network! We have an open culture and mindset with a DNA in our core of a clear “getting things done” mentality. This team consists of 8 Designers, Engineers and Planners, with subcontractors on the side.

We are looking for someone with passion to get the transport design team moving forward. You are not afraid of challenges and have a mind set to keep focus on Change management initiatives & overview. You have the skills by nature, to prioritize and changing direction in case necessary to keep the delivery on track. You have hands-on experience with delivery management, which is essential is a must have, to see within your CV.

Below you will find a differentiation between Must have and nice to have skills:

Must have’s:

  • Technical Education in Networks and strong Background/experience in Telco / Access.
    knowledge of Fiber-, Optical & Microwave transport technologies/topologies.
  • Proven experience on leading technical teams and tactical planning.
  • Developing and maintaining the transport network roadmap.
  • Aligning transport network roadmap with network suppliers roadmap
  • Fluency in Business English, clear communicator.

Nice to have’s (but not mandatory):

  • Familiar with main transport network technology suppliers and associated roadmaps. Knowledge of SDN technology.
  • Familiar with the impact of virtualization for Transport Networks.
  • Supplier management.
  • Fluency in Dutch is definitely preferred.
